Reality TV star and businesswoman Kim Kardashian has revealed that her children are her primary source for staying up-to-date on the latest slang and cultural trends. Despite her own influence, Kardashian admits her kids frequently tease her for being out of touch, a dynamic she embraces as a way to remain relevant.
The Daily “Trend Report”
Kardashian shared this insight during her MasterClass, “The New Rules of Business,” highlighting the surprising role her children play in her understanding of youth culture. She deliberately avoids naming specific slang terms, acknowledging their fleeting nature and the potential for embarrassment.
The key to Kardashian’s informal education? Daily carpool rides. With her four children (North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm) in control of the car’s music, she gains real-time exposure to emerging sounds and phrases. “I get to hear music that I’ve never heard before,” she explained. “I hear what’s like all the trends, what they’re talking about. I’d say the carpool rides are gold.”
A Parent’s Perspective on Education
Beyond slang, Kardashian has also taken an unconventional stance on homework. In a recent livestream appearance, she argued against assigning additional work outside of school hours, stating that children need time for extracurriculars, family, and personal lives.
“Kids are in school for eight hours a day,” Kardashian explained. “When they come home, they need to also—they do sports, have a life, spend time with their family. I think that homework should be left for in school.”
This view, while controversial, reflects a growing sentiment among parents who prioritize work-life balance for their children.
Kardashian’s willingness to learn from her kids and question traditional practices positions her as a relatable figure despite her celebrity status. Her approach suggests that staying informed often requires listening to those closest to the evolving culture, even if it means admitting you’re not always “in the know.”
